Shrimp Care Guide

Cherry shrimp are hardy, active freshwater invertebrates that do best in stable, established aquariums.

1) Tank setup

  • Recommended: 5+ gallons
  •  Fully cycled tank before adding shrimp
  • Sponge filter preferred for gentle flow and biofilm support

2) Water stability

  • Keep parameters stable; avoid sudden swings
  • Match new water closely during water changes
  • Test regularly, especially in newer tanks

3) Acclimation

  • Float bag to equalize temperature
  • Use slow drip acclimation (30–60+ minutes)
  • Net shrimp into tank (avoid adding bag water)

4) Feeding

  • Feed lightly 1x per day or every other day
  • Use shrimp-safe foods and occasional blanched veggies
  •  Avoid overfeeding

5) Tank mates

  • Best in shrimp-only or peaceful nano setups
  • Avoid aggressive or predatory fish

6) Molting

  • Molting is normal
  • Leave molts in tank (shrimp reconsume minerals)
  • Frequent failed molts often indicate parameter instability

     7) Breeding basics

  • Stable tank + biofilm + low stress = best outcomes
  • Babies need cover (plants/moss) and gentle filtration
